Former Sri Lankan cricketer Chandika Hathurusingha to take over as Bangladesh head coach.
He is the current coach of New South Wales in Australian domestic cricket, having previously coached United Arab Emirates national cricket team and Sri Lanka A. Sydney Thunder are looking for a new coach after Chandika Hathurusingha was appointed to take charge of Bangladesh.
A former Sri Lankan opening batsman, Hathurusingha has impressed during his three seasons as assistant coach of NSW.
He took over the Thunder last season as part of a major revamp, after the side was the basket case of the Big Bash during their first two seasons.
THUNDER COURTING CUMMINS FOR BBL
“I must thank Chandika for the dedication and commitment to detail that he put in with the Sydney Thunder last season,” general manager Nick Cummins said. “He is an excellent coach who has received a tremendous opportunity to take on a role at international level.
“With his departure comes opportunity and we will be conducting a world-wide search to find the best possible replacement to take on the role.
“We are speaking with some high profile players at the moment and finding the best possible coach to work with them will be a priority.”
Hathurusingha replaces former Queensland fast bowler Shane Jurgensen, who resigned last month after a string of poor performances by Bangladesh.
